Create account Close and continue watchingThe scene is safe, my gloves are available, my shield is available. I look into their eyes and ask them, "are you choking?" They acknowledge and say yes, or their head nods, I ask if it's okay to help, I'm trained, they acknowledge yes and give you permission. I locate the belly button. Thumb tucked into my fist, fist just above the pointer finger on the belly button. I would inward and upward thrusts until the object comes out, or the victim falls unresponsive. If I've not activated emergency medical services before now, I'm gonna activate them as the patient becomes unresponsive and get further help.
Learn how to rescue a conscious adult that is choking by watching the procedure performed on a mannequin.
