Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of healthcare providers involved in the care of patients in cardiac arrest.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
  • Recognize the risk factors and the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and stroke, and describe how to provide the proper care.
  • Learn and perform the primary assessment steps for adults, children and infants to determine health, safety and life-threatening conditions.
  • Demonstrate rescue breathing skills for adults, children and infants in respiratory arrest. 
  • Demonstrate effective skills for removing a foreign body airway obstruction for conscious and unconscious choking adults, children and infants.
  • Demonstrate how to provide 1-person and 2-person CPR with high-quality chest compressions for adults, children and infants. 
  • Deliver effective ventilations to adults, children and infants using a bag-valve-mask (BVM) resuscitator.
  • Demonstrate effective use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for adults, children and infants.
